Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Katsina-Ala
The Most Reverend Isaac Bundepuun Dugu is a distinguished Nigerian Roman Catholic prelate currently serving as the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Katsina-Ala in Benue State. Known for his extensive administrative expertise and profound pastoral commitment, Bishop Dugu is a prominent voice for peace, education, and humanitarian advocacy in North-Central Nigeria.
Bishop Dugu was born on April 14, 1971, in Gboko, Benue State. His journey to the priesthood began with rigorous philosophical and theological training in Nigeria, which he later augmented with international postgraduate studies.
1991–1993: Formative studies at St. Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary, Makurdi.
1994–1999: Theological training at St. Augustine's Major Seminary, Jos.
2007–2011: Obtained a Licentiate in Theology from the prestigious Philosophisch-Theologische Hochschule Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt, Germany.
Following his ordination as a Catholic priest on October 21, 2000, Bishop Dugu served the Church in numerous pastoral, educational, and high-level administrative capacities. His diverse assignments prior to his episcopal appointment include:
Parochial Ministry: Served as Parish Vicar at Holy Ghost Parish (Abeda), Priest-in-Charge at St. Mary's Parish (Chito), and Parish Priest at St. George's Rectory (Tyobo, Gboko).
Diocesan Administration: Served as Chancellor for both the Diocese of Makurdi and subsequently the Diocese of Gboko.
National Service: Contributed significantly to the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) in Lagos, serving as Administrative Secretary and later as Director of the Pastoral Agents Department.
Healthcare Chaplaincy: Served as Chaplain to the Schools of Nursing and Midwifery.
On April 9, 2022, Pope Francis appointed Father Isaac Bunde Dugu as the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Katsina-Ala. He was formally consecrated on July 1, 2022, succeeding the late Bishop Peter Adoboh. As the chief shepherd of the diocese, he oversees the spiritual and socio-pastoral welfare of the faithful across the region.
Since his elevation to the episcopacy, Bishop Dugu has established himself as a courageous shepherd and a vital community leader. His ministry is defined by a holistic approach to the gospel, balancing spiritual leadership with active social advocacy.

Peace and Security: Standing as an outspoken advocate against regional insecurity, particularly within the vulnerable Sankera axis of Benue State.
Humanitarian Support: Championing the rights, protection, and rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and marginalized communities.
Civic Engagement: Actively engaging public and political leaders to demand accountability, improved security, and better welfare for the citizens of Benue State.

Bishop Isaac Dugu is widely recognized as one of Benue State’s most influential religious leaders. His strategic pastoral governance and unyielding dedication to addressing the humanitarian and security crises affecting Katsina-Ala, Ukum, and Logo Local Government Areas continue to leave a lasting impact on both the Church and society.
