Chief Steven Lawani is one of Benue State’s most accomplished political leader, administrator, and business executive whose career spans both the private and public sectors. Born on December 30, 1947, in Otukpo, Benue State, Lawani built a distinguished reputation through his academic achievements, professional expertise in economics and hospitality management, and decades of service to Nigeria. He studied Economics at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and further advanced his education in hotel management and leadership development in the United Kingdom. His outstanding contributions to national development earned him the prestigious national honour of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).
In the political arena, Steven Lawani emerged as a respected statesman who served in several strategic leadership positions before becoming Deputy Governor of Benue State. During his tenure as Deputy Governor from 2011 to 2015, he played a significant role in supporting governance, policy implementation, and development initiatives across the state's twenty-three local government areas. His extensive engagement with communities enabled him to understand the diverse needs of the Benue people and contribute to efforts aimed at improving public service delivery and strengthening government-citizen relations.
Lawani’s contributions to Benue extend beyond government office. He has consistently championed economic development, investment promotion, and private-sector participation as critical drivers of growth in the state.
