Professor James Iorzua Ayatse is a distinguished Nigerian academic, visionary administrator, eminent biochemist, and revered traditional ruler. He reigns as the Tor Tiv V, the paramount ruler of the Tiv nation worldwide, and serves as the President of the Tiv Area Traditional Council and Chairman of the Benue State Council of Chiefs.

Before his ascension to the throne, Professor Ayatse built an illustrious academic career defined by global standards and rapid advancement, achieving the rank of Professor of Biochemistry at the exceptionally young age of 37.

Vice-Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Makurdi (2001–2006): Led the institution through a period of profound academic expansion and structural modernization.
Pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Dutsin-Ma (2011–2016): Built the institution from the ground up, implementing innovative systems that rapidly positioned it as a model emerging university in Nigeria.
Chancellorships: Has lent his vast administrative expertise to state and federal institutions, serving as Chancellor of Abia State University and Chancellor of the University of Benin (appointed 2021).
In December 2016, the Tiv kingmakers made history by electing Professor Ayatse as the first-ever academic professor to ascend the revered throne of the Tor Tiv.
His coronation on 4 March 2017 marked a progressive paradigm shift for the traditional institution. Notably, he became one of the few paramount rulers to take his oath of office using the Holy Bible, seamlessly blending deep cultural heritage with strong personal faith and modern ethics.
